About Committee

This committee promises to be slightly different from other General Assemblies to provide a holistic and enjoyable experience to all delegates. It aims to promote dynamism, thrill and spontaneity through updates whilst maintaining the integrity and beauty of a conventional committee.

​

When it comes to influencing, power, and discourse of policy-making among the various bodies of the United Nations General Assembly, none exceed the Disarmament and International Security Committee(DISEC). The DISEC aims to discuss principles governing armaments and the regulations of armaments, Violent Non-State Actors, in that context, serve a considerable threat to stability and peace at the regional and global level. The lines of these Non-State Actors having little to no direct government involvement are blurred in several cases. The ability to disrupt and create a detrimental impact on these organizations depends greatly on their ability to access armaments and adaptability, which also serves as a bifocal crippling point for such organizations. Through multilateral debate, agreement, and negotiations, the forum for which the DISEC was created for, solutions and agreements against these pressing and diverse issues is expected to be the focus of the Commmitee. Apart from this, various other facets of MUN like lobbying, solution oriented speeches and well made paperwork will also play a key role in this committee.

Greetings Delegates,

It is our absolute honor to welcome you to the Disarmament and International Security Committee (DISEC) at the La Martiniere Calcutta Model United Nations, 2023. It is an honor to chair a committee like the DISEC because of the importance it holds in the current geopolitical scenario of the world. Often referred to as the First Committee, the influence and power of policy-making that the body has is second to none. The need of the DISEC is now more than ever, and as representatives of nations, it is your responsibility to not only uphold diplomatic integrity but also to save the world from one of the greatest diseases mankind has faced- the proliferation of arms to non-state actors.

 

The General Assembly, especially the DISEC, is one of the most intellectually stimulating yet conventional committees of any Model United Nations Conference. This year, as always, we expect solution oriented speeches, smart lobbying, efficient update handling abilities and well crafted paperwork. Delegates are expected to understand the intricacies of the problem at hand as they will be tasked with making amends to conflicts with severe undertones that are decades in the making.

 

This conference holds a very special place in our hearts and we have poured our hearts and souls into it. Nothing will be more fulfilling for us to make this committee an enjoyable and memorable experience over three days for every delegate that is a part of it. As chairpersons, we can assure you that this will be one of the most fun and memorable experiences of your lives. The committee will be a perfect balance between intense debate, lobbying and paperwork. Your spontaneity will be tested through updates whilst maintaining the essence and beauty of a conventional committee.

 

Vaibhav Giani is a successful stock market investor and an active public speaker. Apart from this, he also has a keen interest in economics, finance and entrepreneurship. One of the most known faces in Kolkata's debating and MUNning circuit, he is best known for his lobbying and persuasive ability. He is also notoriously known for being late, so if you see someone entering committee late in a well-fitted tuxedo, AirPods and shades, be sure that it's your chairperson - Vaibhav Giani. A total Bollywood buff and a self proclaimed cricket expert, he spends most of his nights either binging on classical Bollywood drama or watching past cricket matches.

 

Arka Chaudhuri, perhaps the fastest learning member of the Secretariat, is a science student but only on paper. With an equally intense interest in the stock market and history, he has a hard time fitting into any of the streams, and is up for heated conversations about any. With a taste in music and a sense of humor that would resemble people vastly different in age, he has two distinct personalities with and without coffee. He lives in his roof gym, perhaps his greatest pride. Steer clear of mispronouncing his name, for you do not want to get on his wrong side.
 

The pair will be serving as the chairpersons of the UNGA-DISEC. With immeasurable excitement and anticipation to host you for this year, we hope to make LMCMUN 2023 as enriching for you as possible.
