United Nations Security Council

Agenda
Navigating measures to limit and regulate nuclearisation in the Korean Peninsula

About Committee

The United Nations Security Council remains the pinnacle of international deliberation. A major organ of the UN, this fifteen member body aims to bring about peace and cooperation among the nations. The UNSC at LMCMUN 2023 strives to uphold the ethos of the same.

This year, the UNSC will be simulating the deliberations towards navigating measures to limit and regulate nuclearisation in the Korean Peninsula. The Security Council will be in session shortly after the testing of the intermediate range hwasong-12 missile, in violation of UN's ban on testing of such weapons. The committee will be a continuation of the UNSC's efforts at tackling a matter of international concern.

The virtue of this agenda lies in its relevance. It demands a thorough knowledge of one's place in history and the contemporary world. The delegates will be expected to use their diplomatic acumen to optimally utilise this platform to establish their nation's place in the international nuclear sphere, while keeping in mind the SC's collective goal of ensuring peace and security.

The committee will be fast paced and will demand both a historic and contemporary approach, substantiated by research supplemented solutions to problems that affect humanity today and will, in the future. The success of this committee will set precedent for the resolution of international stalemates, even if it is among a room full of students who believe they can save the world.

Chairperson's Address

Greetings delegates!

There is an absurdity in having to write about oneself but I’ll try my best. I’m Niharika Rajsaha, chairperson of the United Nations Security Council. Recognized largely by my vastly made up last name, I believe that spicy food can bring people together. I spend a significant portion of my time telling uninterested people about Leigh Bardugo’s devout spy and faithless gambler and how infuriating the posthumous appreciation of Robert Browning is. MUN has instilled in me a faith that knowledge is the cornerstone of any communication, thus my veneration of panoramic research. Monsoons, Nirvana and Rebecca are old friends and ones that often cross paths when I make my way to the depths of my YouTube recommendations.

The agenda was chosen primarily for the international stalemate it has left the world’s best in, and to take a shot at breaking out of it in our three-day run as diplomats and leaders. We assure you that your research will not go wasted and you will have the optimum opportunity to utilize it. We look forward to creative solutions, to fruitful debate and meticulous attention to the fact that this is an issue that deliberates who holds the key to the extinction of the human race. Remember the people that have suffered due to it, embrace all the good it intended and we leave it to you to ensure that it does better going forward.

I look forward to seeing you there!

Niharika Rajsaha,

Chairperson,

United Nations Security Council,

La Martiniere Calcutta Model United Nations, 2023.
